Had to write a poem for class. Parts of it need some work, I’m not 100% satisfied. But I think it came out cute! It’s like…childrens’s storybooky. I think I was inspired by a drawing Zack made for supercoolsketchblog, so I’ll include it with the poem:
The Spaceboy, by John J Salomone
The tiny little spaceboy with his helmet made of glass,
Gazed up at the sky that swirled with giant balls of gas.
And when he spied the earth out there, half-lit up by the sun,
He remembered what he left behind, just how far he had come.
He kicked off from the window then, and floated ‘cross the room,
And what flew past; a yo-yo, cards, a glowing plastic moon,
Chocolate milk suspended, as if spilled in mid-air,
a robot and a crayon box, some marbles here and there.
But then the room turned crimson in the glow of warning lights,
He scrambled to the cockpit and it came upon his sights:
A meteor much bigger than his tiny little ship,
His hands went to the steering wheel, held steady in his grip.
The tiny little spaceboy ached; he pulled with all his might,
He spun the wheel three times and made the ship veer to the right.
He held it there, the sirens loud, the lights were blinding red,
He closed his eyes and held his breath, and lowering his head,
He prayed that maybe one day he could see his Dad again,
He heard a blast and winced as he had given up hope when…
He heard the pitter patter of small rocks against the glass,
The meteor once giant and quite heavy in its mass,
Was blown up into tiny pieces, doing little harm,
And then a beep rang through the ship, a scarcely heard alarm…
He saw the craft that rescued him, a ship not quite as small,
He pressed the button glowing bright, answering the call.
A man appeared up on the screen, and in his chair he spun!
The man smiled brightly and with a wink said, “Good to see you, son.”
